Midnight in Paris
Woody Allen
2011

So, what, it’s only been, like, seven weeks since I saw this. Here’s the thing– I’m lazy. Also, I’ve been watching and reviewing movies for the Tallgrass Film Fest (seen a couple of absolutely fantastic ones, too, in between the junk), so I haven’t actually been around these parts for a while, except for when I’ve been deleting spam porn links from the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo post.
That said, Amy and I saw this one, Woody Allen’s newest, back at the beginning of July. And you know what? I smiled the entire way through. *Literally.* Woody Allen does this every couple of years, comes out with a movie that’s just completely wonderful. Sometimes, it’s wonderful in a dark, dark way (last one was Match Point), sometimes it’s like this one, where I just feel good the whole time.
How can you not love a movie where a wide-eyed writer goes back in time and meets F. Scott Fitzgerald, Pablo Picasso, Gertrude Stein, and all those others? And Marion Cotillard, at any time in history?
The people who have problems with this movie seem to have difficulty with Owen Wilson. I guess if you don’t much like him, then that could be a hangup. He plays the Woody Allen role here, and that’s about what you think it is. Me, I like Owen Wilson just fine, although I recognize he does play to a certain taste.
But really, how delightful. I smiled and smiled.

Owen Wilson so rocks! Anyone who says different is a ‘tard! I grinned all the way through this movie, too. But largely because it had Owen Effin’ Wilson in it!!
Yep. Loved it, too.
